Power generation increased in the state
Bhopal, Aug 1: Power generation has increased in the state by 3,147 MW from 2,991 MW to 6,138 MW in the past four years, official sources said on Friday, August 1.
These include 500 MW Birsinghpur thermal project and 210 MW Amarkantak project. The government claimed that power generation has increased despite cut in coal supply by the Centre and delay in implementation of central projects. As compared to 2002-03 when 8,107 million unit power was supplied, supply was increased by 22 per cent to 9,859 million unit by July 27, 2008. The government purchased 5,561 million unit power worth Rs 2,166 crore from other states in the past four years to provide maximum supply to people.
Certain dams that are capable of generating power were unable to do so due to less rainfall. The water level of the Indira Sagar dam and the Pench project is 11.5 metre and 9.3 metre less than the previous year. Steps were being taken to deal with a little shortage that has come in power supply.
