PM seeks NE CMs' intervention on Forest Rights Act implementation
Agartala, Aug 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has asked the Chief Ministers of all Northeastern states to ensure speedy and effective implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006. Official sources said here today that in a letter, the Prime Minister had urged the Chief Ministers to give personal attention to expedite action on the matter and ensure that the vulnerable sections of the region got their basic rights over land, which had historically been in their possession.
A recent review by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs had shown that while some states had moved ahead, some others were yet to complete activities related to filing of claims and other formalities, Dr Singh pointed out in the letter.
