Pak Taliban denies links with India

Khar, Aug 1: The Pakistan unit of the Taliban - Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) - has described as 'baseless' the statement made by Adviser to the Pakistan PM on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik saying that TTP was getting funds from India. Dismissing the statement, TTP spokesman Maulvi Umer said that it was totally unfounded as the TTP was fighting jihad against India and considered it as an enemy. Malik's statement alleging that the Taliban had links with India and were getting financial assistance from the country was deplorable and silly and was not based on facts, the Daily Times quoted him as saying from an undisclosed location.

He said Mehsud had no connections with India and was not receiving any financial aid from it. The TTP came into existence in the name of jihad and its aim was to fight a holy war against India and the United States forces in Afghanistan, said the spokesman.

The spokesman added that India was the worst enemy of Pakistan, and that a responsible person like Rehman Malik should avoid issuing statements that were not based on facts as such statements were not in the interests of Pakistan.
