Karunanidhi inaugurates new Corporation

Chennai, Aug 1 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today inaugurated the Vellore Municipal Corporation, the ninth in the State.

The state, for long, had six Corporations, Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Salem and Tirunelveli.

Two more towns, Tirupur and Erode were upgraded to corporations in December 2007, to give a fillip to infrastructure and other civic amenities.

The corporation status to the fort town would help towns and village panchayats which would be merged with new corporations in terms of improved infrastructure like better roads, water supply and sanitation.
