I've experienced an abusive relationship: Jessica Simpson

New York, Aug 1 : American pop singer Jessica Simpson admitted that she had once been in an abusive relationship, and that a song written for her forthcoming country album is based on her own experiences.

The admission comes in the September (08) issue of American magazine Elle, but she refused to go into detail about the painful memory or even confirm whether she was attacked herself.

"I was going through a lot of pain," New York Daily quoted Simpson as telling Elle magazine about the period after her split from Nick Lachey in 2005.

"I didn't try anything to change my life other than dating different types of guys and conforming to their worlds. I thought I had to be artsier, more intellectual," she said.

She revealed that "Remember That," a song about an abusive relationship, which appears on her new album, "Do You Know," was a result of her own experiences.

"I don't want to talk about it, but I have definitely experienced abuse in a way that I would tell people to take their heart and run," she added.

In one of the tracks, Remember That, the star can be heard singing: "It doesn't matter how he hurts you / With his hands or with his words / You don't deserve it / It ain't worth it / Take your heart and run."

Simpson's first country album, 'Do You Know?' is slated to hit shelves on 9 September (08).
