BMC to recruit more security guards

Mumbai, Aug 1 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to recruit additional security guards, keeping in view the security threat and inadequate number of guards in all its offices.

Speaking at a press conference here today, Municipal commissioner Jairaj Phatak said around 700 guards are required to man the offices and all sensitive places in the city.

Mr Phatak said the water pipelines have been provided additional security keeping in mind the encroachments around the area and vulnerability of the same.

Responding to a query, Mr Phatak refuted possibility of terrorist organisations poisoning these pipelines. ''The areas near the pipelines are safe,'' he added.
