AAPSU terms Army withdrawal as ''callous''
Itanagar, Aug 1 (UNI) The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has criticised the withdrawal of the Army from insurgency-dominated Tirap and Changlang districts.
In a statement issued here today, the AAPSU said the withdrawal of the security forces showed the ''insensitive and callous attitude'' of the concerned authorities towards the people of Changlang and Tirap in particular and the state as as a whole.
Pointing out the ground situation in the two districts, the union said the sudden spurt in kidnapping and recent firing on innocent citizens in Tirap district was directly related to the withdrawal of the Army from the district.
''The union fails to understand the logic behind such a drastic step taken by the government and exposing the citizens and porous borders to the mercy of underground outfits active in the two districts,'' the statement said.
The AAPSU also questioned the high-level committee constituted in February, headed by state Home Minister Jarbom Gamlin, in connection with the abduction of students by insurgents from Tirap district.
The union also questioned the minister on why he had failed to convene a single meeting in this connection so far.
