Wanted criminal shot dead in encounter in the state

Jaunpur, Jul 31: The Special Operation Group (SOG) of Uttar Pradesh police with the assistance of local sleuths killed a notorious criminal, carrying a bounty of Rs 20,000 on his head, here on Thuesday, July 31.

On a tipoff, police laid a trap and intercepted two motorcyclists on account of suspicion, Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandra Prakash said. However, with an aim to flee, the duo opened fire upon the police team. One of the men died in retaliatery firing by the cops, while another managed to escape. The deceased was identified as Vinay Kumar Singh. The outlaw was active in Poorvanchal and Mumbai and was facing charges in 16 criminal cases, including those under the National Security Act (NSA) and the Gangster Act. The police team would be awarded for their success, the SP added.
