Two police officers acquitted in atrocity case
Mumbai, Jul 31 (UNI) A special court today acquitted two police officers in an atrocity case, filed against them by a family belonging to the Valmiki Samaj at Wadala in south-central Mumbai in 2000, due to lack of evidence.
Pronoucing the judgement here, Additional Sessions Judge C K Bhide said there was no substaintial evidence against officers Dilip Vinayak Patki and Arvind Sawant.
Giving the benefit of doubt, both the officers were acquitted from all charges levelled against them in the case, Ms Bhide stated.
A family belonging to the Valmiki Samaj had filed an atrocity case against the two police officers at Wadala police station for allegedly passing adverse remarks against their community on October 22, 2000.
There was no independent witness in the case. Many of the witnesses who were examined by the court belonged either to the family or were close relatives of the family.
