NALSA appoints G M Akbar Ali Member Secretary
Chennai, Jul 31: G M Akbar Ali, a Senior District Judge from Tamil Nadu, has been appointed a Member-Secretary of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
Mr Ali, who was a two-time Member-Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority(TNSLSA), became the first candidate from South to hold the prestigious post. Following his appointment to NALSA, Tamil Nadu Government issued an order on July 29, permitting him to go on deputation for a period of two years.
NALSA coordinates Alternate Disputes Resolution(ADR) and initiate steps on Lok Adalats and mediation, among others, in the the country, besides propagating legal aid and awareness among the masses. About the appointment, Mr Ali said he would accord priority to raising legal awareness in the north-eastern states. Mr Ali was expected to assume office in New Delhi on Friday, August 1.
