Mah govt to constitute Security Commission

Mumbai, Jul 31 (UNI) The Maharashtra government, on the directives of the Supreme Court, has decided to constitute State Security Commission, Police Establishment Board, Regional Police Establishment Boards, Police Establishment Boards-Police Commissionerate level, State Level Police Complaints Authority and District Police Complaints Authority.

The Supreme Court, via a circular, dated September 22, 2008, has directed all the states to constitute such Security Commissions, an official release said here today. In view of this, the state government has taken the decision.

The State Security Commission will have Deputy Chief Minister and Acting Minister of Home as ex-officio Chairman, whereas Director General of Police will be its Secretary. Leader of the Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Chief Secretary of State, Additional Chief Secretary, Home and two non-government members, including a woman, will be its members.

The commission will advise and make recommendations to the government on several subjects which will include guidelines to improve police efficiency, help government in assessing performance of police force, review performance of the police from time to time and suggest guidelines to collect information and figures related to functioning of the police.

The state government has decided to constitute State Level District Police Complaints Authority. Retired Judge, Mumbai High Court or retired officer of the Director General or Chief Secretary/Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary rank will be its Chairman and the state government nominated officer, not below the rank of Director General of Police will be its Member-Secretary. Officer of Secretary level of the state government and eminent persons appointed by the state government will be its members.
