Magsaysay Award will help solve tribals' problems: Amte
Nagpur, Jul 31 (UNI) Dr Prakash and Dr Mandakini Amte, the couple who are among the winners of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2008, have expressed happiness at their selection, saying the honour would help solve problems of the tribal people.
Speaking to UNI over telephone, Dr Amte said the award would help to create greater awareness among the people about tribals and their problems.
''The credit goes to the entire team - all the people who have worked with us all those years, and because of whom we have been able to do so much,'' he said.
''We are happy that the hard work of our team has been recognised. We would have been more happy had Baba Amte (my father) been alive today to see us win the award,'' Dr Amte said.
Incidentally, Baba Amte, who worked among leprosy patients, was himself a recipient of the award.
