Srinagar, Jul 31 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Kisan Tehreek has reiterated its demand for introduction of crops insurance in the state.

Tehreek general secretary G N Malik said only crops insurance will save the farmers who are facing grave situation due to natural calamity.

Mr Malik in a statement here today said he wanted to draw the attention of the administration towards the grave situation that has arisen as a result of damage caused to the standing paddy crop due to a deadly epidemic (Paddy Blast) in the vast rural areas of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Ganderbal districts.

He said the farmers who have been watching the epidemic helplessly need immediate protection.

Mr Malik demanded immediate intervention of the administration at this initial stage lest the delay in it would destroy the entire crop.

The general secretary urged for dispatch of an expert team to examine the situation on the spot and suggest measures.
