Congress blames LDF govt for food crisis

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 31 (UNI) Alleging that the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the state had created new food crisis in the state, the Congress in Kerala today said the state had lost the due rice quota from the Centre due to its laxity.

Talking to newspersons here, KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala and Opposition leader in the Assembly Oommen Chandy said though the Centre had written a letter to the government on July 2 in this regard, the Food Minister did not respond to it in time.

They also alleged that the state government had violated the agreement with the Centre on decentralised procurement scheme.

However, they urged the Centre to release sufficient rice to the state during the Onam festival.

They said they were ready to cooperate with the government to get sufficient rice from the Centre.
