50 villagers arrested in community clash

Karur, July 31 (UNI) Police arrested 50 villagers in connection with a group clash of the two community people during the festival in a local temple at Idayapatti village near here last night.

Police said trouble started when both the groups tried to outwit each over in accepting honour of the temple first. This resulted in a free for all beteen the Caste Hindus and Adi Dravida people, as both the groups pelted stones at each other and caused injuries to eight people.

Two huts of a particular community people were set on fire.

The injured were admitted to Government Hospital at Kulithalai and from there six were referred to Government Headquarters Hospital at Tiruchirapalli. One of them was in a critical condition.

Security was tightened ade in and around the village to avoid fresh trouble, police added.
