Chennai, July 30 (UNI) Ali Abdullah, member of the banned All India Jihad Committee and Islamic Fundamentalist force, was today formally arrested for hatching a conspiracy to trigger blasts in several parts of Tamil Nadu on Independence Day.
Police sources said charges of conspiracy to disrupt public peace were slapped on him.
A special police team from Pettai in southern Tirunelveli district formally arrested him by issuing an arrest memo at the Puzhal Central prison here, where Abdullah was lodged in connection with cases relating to murder and bomb blasts in trains.
The arrest of Abdullah in a fresh case today comes two days after he had chewed two SIM cards and spat them after police raided his cell on the prison premises on July 28 evening.
The police also moved a court in Tirunelveli, seeking ten days custody of Abdullah for interrogation as he had hatched the conspiracy in the Puzhal jail premises to set off serial blasts in Tirunelveli, places of worship in Tirunelveli and Chennai and the Anna flyover here and in running trains.
