Remove proposed Entertainment Tax exemption on remakes: Oppn
Bangalore, July 30 (UNI) Prof Chandrasekhar Kambar (Cong) today urged the Karnataka Government to withdraw its proposal to exempt Entertainment Tax on remakes in the State.
Continuing discussion on Budget proposals for 2008-09 in the Legislative Council, Prof Kambar said the exemption of Entertainment Tax on remakes should be immediately withdrawn as it discouraged production of good films and led to poor creativity and naturality in films produced in the State.
He said remakes can be made with half the budget of films produced and everybody would opt for taking advantage of tax exemption if the State Government allowed the exemption.
Mr Doddarange Gowda (BJP), supporting Prof Kambar's demand, said remakes was a disease and as long as it was not cured early, it could become a epidemic.
There are writers in Kannada field who can give good story for producing good films and remakes cannot maintain the rich Kannada culture, he said.
