Pondy non-Cong MLAs to observe fast on Aug one

Puducherry, July 30 (UNI) All the non-Congress Legislators in this Union Territory would observe a fast here on August one to press for the implementation of the promises given by the Government on the floor of the Territorial Assembly.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting of the non-Congress MLAs here today, CPI Legislator R Viswanathan said that in the hour-long meeting, all the members expressed dissatisfaction about the functioning of the Government. There was a stagnation in administration, resulting in non-implementation of the announced schemes, he claimed.

He said the Government had failed to get its due share of seats from the private medical colleges management and stopped the Kamaraj educational assistance scheme, following which the general public were dissatisfied with the functioning of the Government.

Mr Viswanathan said the Legislators would call on Lt Governor Govind Singh Gurjar tomorrow and urge him to convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss the matters and would observe a fast in front of the Nehru statue on the beach road on August one.

Messrs Siva, M A S Subramanian, Rajaraman and Nanda Saravanan (all DMK), R Viswanathan and Na Ra Kalainathan (CPI), K Lakshminarayanan and Anand (PMC), Anantharaman and Arulmurugan (PMK) and P R Siva (MDMK) were the members who participated in the meeting, boycotted by the AIADMK.
