Police arrest naxal, unearth huge arm dumps

Shimoga, July 30 (UNI) The Anti-Naxal Force and the police have arrested a naxalite and unearthed a huge cache of fire arms and explosives hidden deep in the forest areas in Udupi and Shimoga districts.

Inspector General of Police (Eastren Range) Satyanarayana Rao told reporters in Thirthahalli in the district today that the arrested, identified as Krishna (28) of Korankote village, had led the police team to the arms dumps in the two districts in the border areas near the town.

He was an active member of the naxal group, which had presence in the forest areas bordering Shimoga, Chikmagalur and Udupi, he said.

He said that the arms dump had been hidden at Kabbinhale, Narasimha Parvata, Tannirbavi of Karkala taluk in Udupi district and forests of Teerthalli taluk.

The dump included more than 2000 rounds of live ammunition, a .303 rifle, some other fire arms, a grenade, a large amount of explosives, 80 detonators, a electronic printer, naxal material, books and uniform.

The arrested had revealed that a 30-member group of naxals was active in areas and in the three districts the group had been divided by names like Tunga, Bhadra, Netra and Varahi dalas.
