Srinagar, Jul 30 (UNI) To accommodate maximum Haj aspirants from Jammu and Kashmir, Governor N N Vohra has requested for enhancement of Haj quota for the state.
An official spokesperson said Mr Vohra has taken up the matter with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
He said Mr Vohra has urged for enhancing the Haj quota by 3000 additional seats to accommodate maximum Haj aspirants from the state.
More than 16,000 applications were received from Haj aspirants from all parts of the state. However, only about 6228 were selected through draw of lots, he added.
