Flood situation grim in UP
Lucknow, Jul 30 (UNI) Deluge situation continued to be critical in several regions with waters of many prominent rivers still swirling high in Uttar Pradesh.
As per the reports from Basti, two people drowned in the last 24 hrs. Till now, a total of 17 people have died in the rain-related incidents in the district, while as many as 2,500 houses in poor condition collapsed.
Flood situation continued to be grim due to the spate in Ghagra, Kuwano and Manvar rivers.
Over 400 villages in Harraiya, Basti and Bhanpur Tehsils were under the jaws of flood, while 130 others were marooned. Around 90,000 people were running affected from the flood.
Besides, 12,000 hectares of land was adversely affected from the excess water.
The district administration has established 16 flood Chowkis and deployed 154 boats for rescue work.
B D dam was also facing danger from the turbulent Ghagra river.
Meanwhile, plying of vehicles on Varanasi-Gorakhpur national highway remained suspended for the fourth consecutive day today, causing losses to the tunes of Rs several lakhs to the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).
