AASU flays state govt, Centre
Guwahati, Jul 30 (UNI) The All Assam Students Union (AASU) today accused both the Centre and state government of protecting Bangladeshi infiltrators even as Gauhati High Court, in a recent judgement, exposed how a Bangladeshi citizen had managed to contest the Assembly alections in 1996.
Addressing a news conference here, AASU welcomed the judgment of Gauhati High Court, saying it was a ''slap on the face of the government which is protecting Bangladeshi illegal immigrants.'' The AASU also accused all the political parties of taking advantage of the situation.
AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Kr Bhattacharrya said the situation was becoming complicated as neither of the Centre nor the state government were sincere in implementing the Assam Accord.
