Speaker breaks silence on his expulsion by CPM
Kolkatta, July 29 : Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who was expelled by the Communist Party of India-Marxist for refusing to quit his constitutional post despite party directive, said that he has left it to the people to judge whatever had happened.
"I will speak after a few days. I leave it to the people (to judge)," he said yesterday to media persons after visiting his ailing sister at her Salt Lake home in Kolkata.
This was Chatterjee' first statement to the media following his expulsion from CPM for refusing to quit his post.
The Speaker had refused to resign from office after the CPM withdrew support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government over the Indo-US civil nuclear deal and chaired the Confidence motion on July 22.
