Kerry Katona victorious over hooker claims by newspaper
London, July 29 : Former Atomic Kitten band member Kerry Katona won a five-figure amount in damages after she sued a newspaper that claimed she had been a hooker before she rose to fame.
The Sunday Mirror had alleged that Katona's mum Sue, planned to reveal her daughter's secret in an autobiography.
The newspaper had in June printed out the bold the headline: 'Betrayed by Mum: Kerry's mother dishes the dirt in explosive new book', which also came out on the paper's website.
But Katona's solicitor-advocate, David Price told London's High Court the claim was "completely false".
"Sue Katona has never alleged that the claimant worked as a prostitute," the Sun quoted him as saying.
He said the claim "particularly distressed" Kerry, 27, as it allegedly came from her mum, "giving it added credibility".
Besides the allegations on the former pop singer, the paper also claimed that Sue had secured a six-figure deal for her book.
Price has again denied the claims and said that she did not have a publishing deal and had not written an autobiography.
MGN Limited admitted the libel earlier and published an apology, with its company's lawyer, Victoria Joliffe, accepting that the allegations were false.
The exact amount of damages was not revealed.
