IPS probationers meet Punjab Governor
Chandigarh, Jul 29 (UNI) A group of 25 IPS probationers from Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad, today called on Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gen (Retd) SF Rodrigues at Punjab Raj Bhavan and exchange views on security environment and the role of police in tackling various situations.
General Rodrigues answered various questions posed by the police officers and told them to strictly follow the rule book and adopt a professional approach for addressing critical issues.
"The police officers must develop the ability and capacity to resist undue pressure and influence from any quarter to serve the society better," he said.
Replying to a query about the need of a federal agency to check crime, General Rodrigues said that "this issue has been widely debated and there is certainly a need of a central agency to coordinate our endeavour as mentioned by the Prime Minister recently".
He stressed the need for immediate steps for changing the outdated laws enacted during the British regime to meet the changing needs of our democratic and social system.
"The police service officers have a direct link with the community and must act as catalysts of change," Gen Rodrigues said.
