Bardhan seeks support for 'Bharat Bandh'

Amritsar, Jul 29 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today sought support of all the 'like minded' parties to make the Left proposed 'Bharat Bandh' against the nuclear deal on August 20 a success.

''The nuke deal was a sell out of the nation to the United States'', CPI general secretary A B Bardhan said while addressing a public rally here on the occasion of the death anniversary of Sohan Singh Josh, a prominent CPI leader, who had passed away a few years back.

Launching a frontal attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Communist leader said the PM had betrayed the nation. In fact Dr Singh alongwith Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Planning Commission Vice Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia had ''sold the country to the US'' through their economic policies.

''The Left parties had opposed the nuclear deal and would continue to do so at every stage'', he said.

Mr Bardhan further said that the Leftist alongwith the BSP, TDP, INLD and other parties would form a Third Front as an alternative to the Congress -led UPA and the BJP- led NDA. This Front with a common minimum programme would come into force very soon, he added.
