Tension in Rly Station as cop fires in air
Tiruchirapalli, July 28 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Railway Junction here when an RPF constable fired in the air to disperse an unruly mob of Railwaymen here midnight last night.
Railway sources said trouble began when RPF Constable Manimandiram, on duty on the Tuticorin-bound Chennai-Tuticorin Muthunagar Express, woke up Travel Ticket Examiner Raghuraman, who was fast asleep in a coach and questioned his identity.
An enraged Raghuraman, who was on leave, engaged in a wordy duel with the RPF constable resulting in his being manhandled. The incident took place between Villupuram and Vriddachalam.
When the train reached the Railway Junction here, the TTE was taken to the Cash Guard Room in the Divisional Railway Manager's office for questioning.
Hearing this, over 50 Railway employees belonging to the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union went to room and attempted to rescue the TTE prompting Manimandiram to fire in the air with his service revolver.
The mob dispersed but returned in a few minutes and ransacked the office. Manimandiram and Raghuraman preferred counter complaints at the Cantonment Police Station here.
