Aizawl, Jul 28(UNI) The Youth Movement for Mizoram (YMM) today accused the state government of neglecting development of Mizoram University as it 'failed' to contribute its only 10 per cent matching share in centre-sponsored projects for the varsity.

A YMM source quoted MzU authorities as saying that this will ultimately stop many of the ongoing infrastructure works in the seven-year-old university.

The source said the MzU officials were surprised by the state government's notification (dated May 26, 2008) stating its inability to provide the matching share and further suggested that the university approaches University Grants Commission or the ministry of human resource development for assistance.

The YMM also expressed serious concern over MzU's frequent shortage of water supply and poor quality of the university approach road even after the state government had received a sum of Rs 4.5 crores for maintenance of road, water and power supplies.

The association therfore demanded the state government take appropriate measures immediately stating that the MzU, though a central university, is one of the most valuable infrastructures for the indigenous people, especially for the youths of Mizoram.

Varsity Registrar Benjamina had earlier made it clear that delays in funds release to the university (by the state government) have also caused lots of cost overrun and time overrun which further hampers the construction work.
