Security heightened in UP following bomb scare
Lucknow, Jul 28 (UNI) The exigency security plan for world famous monument of Taj and other vital installations in Uttar Pradesh have been put into place even as the state government heightened security measures following the threats of bomb blasts at several places.
The Director General of Police (DGP), UP, Vikram Singh today spoke to all the zonal IGs through video conferencing issuing necessary instructions with regards to the apprehensions of Bangalore and Ahmedabad-like bomb exlosions.
Taj, Ram Janambhumi complex in Ayodhya, railway stations, shopping malls and other installations have been put under thick security net with frisking of suspects being done for the two days.
Charbagh railway station in the state capital was evacuated this morning following the detection of a suspected bag. But later a transistor was found in the bag by the bomb disposal squad.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has detained a suspected member of a sleeping module of Lashkar-e-Toiba(LeT) in the state capital today.
The suspect, Shakil, was residing in Lucknow for the last four years and had made calls to Pakistan for more than 52 hours in July.
According to sources, Shakil also introduced himself as Rajesh on several occasions and used to travel between Lucknow and Varanasi frequently. The suspect was working in a glass showroom in the Hazratganj locality of the city while stayed at Charbagh, sources said.
A similar suspect of the Jaipur blast Abdul Matin Madni, was taken into custody in Varanasi and was later released on personal bond late last night after the police did not find any clear evidence of his involvement in the serial blasts.
Inspector General(IG), Law and Order, Bhanu Pratap Singh told UNI that the Special Task Force (STF) and ATS were on the alert and all possible precautionery measures were being taken to prevent any untoward incident.
He said the origin of all sorts of threatening phone calls and e-mails were being traced and all the districts had been asked to maintain utmost vigil.
UP, a victim of terrorists attack in the recent years, has every reason to be vigilant in the wake of fresh attacks in other parts of the country.
