Legislators urge Governor to provide funds for irrigation
Mumbai, Jul 28 (UNI) A delegation of legislators today requested Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir to use his special powers under Article 371 (2) of the Constitution to provide funds for the ongoing irrigation projects in the Krishna Valley, North Maharashtra and Konkan regions.
The 15-member delegation from Western Maharashtra, Konkan and North Maharashtra regions, representing various political parties, met Mr Jamir at Raj Bhavan here, an official release said.
The delegation was led by Minister for Water Resources (Krishna Valley projects) Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar and comprised of BJP leader Eknath Khadse, senior PWP leader Ganpatrao Deshmukh and MLAs and MLCs from the three regions.
Mentioning that the state government has made an additional provision of Rs 1,000 crore for irrigation projects to liquidate the irrigation backlog, the delegation requested that this additional provision may be utilised to complete the ongoing projects and for creating additional irrigation potential.
The delegation also requested that the unspent backlog funds from Amravati region may not be diverted to Nagpur region instead they should be spent among all non-backlog regions of the State to create additional irrigation potential.
The Governor assured the delegation that he will examine in detail the matter and take necessary steps, the release said.
