Khanduri urges centre for funds to curb terrorism

Dehra Dun, Jul 28 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri has requested the Union Home Ministry to release more funds for the state to meet its growing security requirements after the serial bomb blasts that rocked Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

Talking to mediapersons at a meeting here yesterday, called to assess the security situation in the state, Mr Khanduri said he had written a letter to the Home Minister requesting him to release more funds to strengthen and upgrade the security in the state in view of the heavy rush of pilgrims visiting the Kanwar Mela, Char Dham yatra, Hemkund yatra and 2010 Kumbh Mela.

Condemning the blasts in Ahmedabad and Bangalore, Mr Khanduri said the only way to deal with the menace of terrorism was to revive the POTA and strengthen the intelligence agencies to thwart any attempt to disturb peace in the country.

He said the state was put on a high alert after the yatra season commenced and police were maintaining vigil after the threats to thwart peace in the state were received.
