India tops saving, luxury categories among expats

Mumbai, Jul 28 (UNI) India is the best country to save, and is also one of the most luxurious destinations for expatriates, according to a survey conducted by Expat Explorer in 49 countries.

According to the survey findings, India topped the list as a saver's heaven along with the UAE and Singapore, with only 21 per cent claiming their costs of accommodation had increased. The most expensive location for accommodation went to UK with more than 85 percent of expats revealing that their living costs had increased, a release said today.

As a luxurious destination, India came behind the UAE and Singapore meeting most of the 11 perceived luxury categories including access to health care and domestic help. UK again came at the bottom with decrease in nine out of the 11 categories.

Hong Kong had the highest number of earners with 49 per cent earning salaries of more than UK Pound 1,00,000 a year.

Europe proved to be the most popular destination overall in longevity of stay, among expats with 82 per cent living in the Netherlands for three or more years,followed by Germany (77 per cent) and Spain (76 per cent).

The UK (14th) and France (13th) were ranked as two of the lowest rated expat destinations.

Around 2,155 expatriates across four continents were questioned on the opportunities, challenges and difficulties, including ease in integrating with the local population, changes in lifestyle, and experiences of children in a new country, the survey added.
