Dalits lay seige to Collectorate

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, July 28 (UNI) Hundreds of Dalits, including the victims of recent clashes at Potlanka village of Kadiyam mandal, today laid a seige to the Collectorate here, demanding implementation of the relief package agreed to at the village peace committee meeting in the presence of district officials and people's representatives.

They alleged that the Dalits were let down by the ''non-implementation of the relief package''. The agitation was organised under the aegis of the United Dalits Action Committee.

A delegation of the committee called on the Collector and presented a memorandum, seeking justice.

In a Gandhian way of protest, the demonstrators, braving inclement weather, cooked and ate their food in front of the collectorate. The police had a tough time controlling the demonstrators.
