Assam Rifles to flush out militants from Samtal
Imphal, Jul 28: The 44 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) have been deployed in Samtal Salient in Chandel district, a strong hold of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) for the past 12 years, in an effort to flush out the militants.
Official sources said here on Monday, July 28, that the AR batallion had undertaken numerous civic activities as part of confidence building measures among the civil population. The road ahead of Phaiphenkot was also repaired to allow the free movement of civilians and security forces. To evince interest in sports, playgrounds had been created and villagers of the New Samtal, Tuileng and Old Samtal had been presented with volleyballs and footballs.
Besides, clearance and levelling of the ground for the construction of a church was undertaken at Changjal on the request of the villagers.
