Ahmedabad blasts: One SIMI activist arrested
New Delhi, Jul 28: Two days after 17 low-intensity blasts rocked Ahmedabad, police late on Sunday, July 27 arrested an activist of the banned SIMI. Abdul Halim, who is also believed to be a member of Ahl-e-Hadees, was arrested in Dani Limda, Ahmedabad. Police traced a phone call and focussed on eyewitness accounts, which led to Abdul Halim's arrest. He will be produced in metropolitan court at 1100 hrs on Monday, July 28.
Indian Mujahideen on Sunday, July 27 had claimed responsibility to the serial blasts. This is said to be the same group that had sent e-mails after the Jaipur blasts in May 2008. The anti-terrorism squad is investigating the source of the email. Just before the blasts took place, the Indian Mujahideen had sent an e-mail to a TV channel saying that there would be blasts in Ahmedabad. The group had e-mailed video clips to two Delhi-based media organisations of a bicycle which, it said, was purportedly packed with explosives used in the blasts.
