My father would have been a Communist: Kanimozhi
Nagercoil,Tamil Nadu, July 27 (UNI) Rajya Sabha MP and State Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's daughter K Kanimozhi today said her father would have been a Communist had he not met Dravida Kazhagam Founder and Rationalist Leader 'Periyar' E V Ramasamy and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)Founder C N Annadurai.
Talking to newspersons here, she said Mr Karunanidhi had also mentioned during his press conference in New Delhi that the DMK's ties with the Left Parties continued in Tamil Nadu in order to keep fundamentalist and separatist forces at bay.
She was answering a question on the Chief Minister's statement that DMK's ties with the Left continued while the relationship with PMK was snapped.
On the victory chances for the Third Front (the UNPA), Ms Kanimozhi used a metaphor, saying dark clouds gathered only to disappear without any rainfall.
Regarding the Tamil fishermen issue, Ms Kanimozhi said her father urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up the issue during the SAARC Summit at Colombo scheduled for next month.
She said DMK MPs would voice their demand for retrieval of Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka during the next session of Parliament.
Though the issue could not be solved immediately, fishermen's rights to catch fish, drying nets and using the place of worship cannot be denied.
Ms Kanimozhi called for a halt to Sri Lankan Navy firing against Indian fishermen, as 300 of whom had fallen prey to the bullets.
