Encounter ensued in Kupwara hideout busted in south Kashmir

Srinagar Jul 27 (UNI) A fierce encounter is going on between a group of holed up militants and security forces in the frontier district of Kupwara while a hideout was busted in south Kashmir, today official sources said.

They said troops of 9 Para and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at village Gujarpati Surigam in the frontier district of Kupwara.

During the operation, the holed up militants fired upon the search party with automatic weapons and also hurled hand grenades.

The Security forces also retaliated and the operation was going on when the last reports came in.

They said troops of 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) busted a hideout at Sangarwani forest in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

The arms and ammunition recovered included one UBGL Launcher, seven AK magazines and 892 rounds. No one was arrested, they said.
