Eight injured in lathicharge in Bengal

Hooghly, Jul 27: At least eight persons were injured as police resorted to lathicharge to disperse an irate mob protesting against the alleged negligence of doctors at a private nursing home under Arambagh police station area in this district today.

Arambagh Sub-Divisional Police Officer Swapan Bagchi said three police personnel were also injured as the agitators threw stones and bricks at the security forces.

Earlier, two women, who were admitted to the nursing home for delivery, lost their lives allegedly due to the negligence of the doctors.

To protest the incident, the family members of the victims and local people ransacked the nursing home and damaged property.

Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, the SDPO said, adding that no arrests had been made in this connection so far.
