Centre reviews security following blasts in Bangalore, Ahmedabad
New Delhi, Jul 27 (UNI) Home Minister Shivraj Patil convened a high-level meeting here today to review the security situation in the country following the series of blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad during the past two days in which about 40 people were killed and more than 150 injured.
The meeting at the Home Minister's residence was attended by Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekar, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Director Intelligence Bureau P C Haldar, Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal and several other senior officials of the Home Ministry.
Later the Home Minister drove down to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's house to brief him on the latest situation in the country and the discussions held at the meeting.
A senior official of the Home Ministry said after the meeting that the Centre was keeping a close watch on the developments and taking all steps to ensure that the situation did not worsen.
It was decided at the meeting to extend all assistance to the Gujarat government to keep the situation under control and give relief to the victims.
The official said the Prime Minister and the Home Minister were likely to visit Gujarat tomorrow for an on-the-spot study of the situation.
