After blasts, TN tightens security measures
Chennai, Jul 27 (UNI) Tight security measures have been put in place after the Tamil Nadu Government received a red alert from the Centre in the wake of serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad that killed more than 40 lives.
Official sources said the Centre had issued a general red alert to the state in the wake of the blasts and the state Government had geared up its machinery to monitor the movements of fundamentalists and extremist elements.
Security had been beefed up at all public places and in places were people congregate in large numbers.
Being a Sunday today, people used the holiday to visit amusement parks, beaches, cinema halls and for shopping.
Police pickets were posted at all various places and vital installations including places of worship, temples, airport, railway stations, bus stands, shopping malls, cinema theatres, commercial establishments, beach and amusement parks.
Security was also increased in areas were people throng for the Tamil month of ''Aadi'' for shopping to cash in on the huge discount offered by various textile showrooms, jewellery shops and consumer durables and electronic items like mobile phones and DVD players shops.
