Teargas shells burst in Srinagar to disperse War supporters
Srinagar, Jul 26 (UNI) Police burst teargas shells and resorted to repeated lathicharge to diserpse stone pelting supporters at Maisuma protesting against the arrest of Peoples Political Party (PPP) Chairman Hilal Ahmad War.
Hundreds of supporters of War took to streets this afternoon after Maisuma police arrested him for threatening Bihari labourers and other workers to leave the valley by August 10.
When the supporters tried to march towards the Budshah Chowk, police resorted to baton charge to disperse them. However, they regrouped again and started pelting stones on police from different directions.
Police burst teargas shells at Maisuma, Gaw Kadal and Madina chowk to disperse them.
Shops and other business establishments in the entire area were closed and traffic also came to halt due to clash between supporters of War and police.
More than a dozen persons, including police personnel were injured in the clash.
