Nuke deal was the need of the hour:Kalam
Amritsar, July 26 (UNI) Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam today said that the Indo-Us nuclear deal was ''the need of the hour and would not be against the interest of the country''.
''Considering the power situation in the country, nuclear energy is needed and it is environmental friendly'', Dr Kalam said while talking to mediapersons here on his arrival this evening.
Referring to the power senario in the country, Dr Kalam said that solar and hydro energy were not sufficient for the country, the gap could only be filled by nuclear energy, he added.
Dr Kalam said that a number of politicians from different parties had sought his advise on the Indo-Us nuclear deal before the trust vote in Parliament. The former President advised politicians to work for the progress of the country rather than politicalising issues.
Dr Kalam praised former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and the current PM Dr Manmohan Singh.''They both are good men'', he added.
