New policy to give loan waiver benefits to farmers: CM

Mumbai, Jul 26 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today announced in the assembly that the state government will announce a new policy for the farmers who could not get the benefit of loan waiver scheme.

He made this announcment during the reply on the discussion initiated by Shashikant Shinde (NCP), saying that loan waiver scheme had not benefitted some farmers in the state.

Mr Deshmukh, intervening cooperation minister Dr Patangrao Kadam, said the government was ready to bear burden for the effective implementation of loan waiver scheme. Under the new policy, the farmers who had paid their debt as well as those who had taken debt from cooperative societies will be benefitted, he said.

He also said the benefits of the loan waiver scheme would be extended to lift irrigation, poultry, dairy development and cooperative socities.

Earlier, Dr Kadam said 37 lakh farmers had got the benefit of loan waiver scheme and added that the government was considering to give benefits to those who could not get the benefit from the same.
