Ministry accepts nine final reports on water efficiency

New Delhi, Jul 26 (UNI) The Ministry of Water Resources have accepted nine final reports and 16 draft final reports among the 23 studies concerning efficiency in water use in major, medium and irrigation projects.

The Ministry had allowed WALMI/Research Institutes to carry out studies in 43 projects at a cost of Rs 213 lakhs under Research and Development Programmes of the Ministry. The Ministry was considering eight studies and had decided to review the outcome of the studies to asses their utilities and effectiveness before awarding such studies, an official release said.

The water use efficiency in irrigation projects was very low and there was ample scope for improving the usage. The Central Water Commission was also working out to build a data bank about water use efficiency in all major and medium irrigation projects in the country.

A technical advisory committee headed by one of its members to identify project specific studies to cover all major and medium irrigation projects.
