CJ stresses upon people's role in pollution control
Kapurthala, Jul 26 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Vijender Jain today said the change in environment was a matter of great concern for the entire world and people must take initiative to keep the environemnt clean instead of depending solely upon the governments.
Addressing a gathering at Sultanpur Lodhi on the occasion of eighth anniversary of kar seva of holy Bein undertaken by Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, Justice Jain said rising pollution level had affected the air, water and vegetation and government alone could not check this menace without the cooperation of people.
Lauding the efforts of Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal in cleaning 160 km long holy Bein with the cooperation of people, the Chief Justice said Baba Seechewal had presented a model of cleaning up of holy Bein and it should be replicated in the enitre country.
Later, talking to mediapersons, the Chief Justice said judiciary was completely aware of the problem of pollution and PILs were heard on priority level.
Earlier, addressing the gathering, Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal said it was unconstitutional to pollute the natural resources.
Baba demanded the immediate stoppage of affluents discharge and sewage water of towns and villages in the holy Bein.
