BJP defers its election meeting on UP, Bihar
New Delhi, Jul 26 (UNI) The cross-voting in the trial of strength has affected BJP's process of candidate selection for the coming Lok Sabha elections, forcing it to postpone its Central Election Committee meeting scheduled for July 28.
BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told mediapersons here today that the party would like to give more time for the state units to select appropriate candidates who were not only winnable but also could brave all allurements.
The party had begun the process of announcing the candidates about a month ago to allow the candidates a headstart in their constituencies. It had announced the names of over a dozen candidates including Leader of Opposition L K Advani in the two lists that were made public.
Mr Naqvi said states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh had been specifically asked to go through the background of the prospective candidates thoroughly before sending names for clearance by the High Command.
