Thane legislators request Governor to remove irrigation backlog
Mumbai, Jul 25 (UNI) Legislators and Ministers from Thane district today met Maharashtra Governor, S C Jamir and requested him to use his special powers under article 371 (2) of the Indian constitution to remove the irrigation backlog of the district.
According to a media release issued, the delegation was lead by Guardian minister of Thane district Ganesh Naik.
The delegation pointed out that there was a considerable amount of backlog in hilly areas like Wada, Jawhar, Vikramgad and Mokhada in Thane district, but the report of the Indicators and Backlog committee said otherwise.
The delegation also mentioned to the governor that more than Rs 5,000 crore was required for the 17 irrigation projects in the area as against the provision of Rs 100 crore.
Governor S C Jamir assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister, the release added.
