Panchayat President attempts to commit suicide

Puducherry, July 25 (UNI) Aandiyarpalayam village Panchayat President Raja caused a flutter when he attempted to commit suicide at the Ariyanakuppam commune panchayat meeting today.

As the meeting under the commune panchayat President Anand was in progress, Mr Raja suddenly stood up and poured kerosene over him and attempted to set him on fire. Village panchayat presidents and Ariyanakuppam commune panchayat councillors thwarted his attempt and brought him out of the meeting hall.

Later, Mr Raja told newspersons that he had attempted to set him on fire to protest against the failure of Ariyankuppam commune panchayat President Anand to issue no objection certificate for the provision of free house site Pattas in several places under the Embalom Assembly constituency. Eventhough Legislator Rajaraman had taken initiatives in this regard, the failure of Mr Anand to issue the NOC was prolonging the issue, he added.
