Patna, Jul 25 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister and senior JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar today affirmed that his party would strongly support any constitutional amendment making provision of reservation for Extremely Backward Classes(EBCs)in Lok Sabha and state Assemblies.
Intervening during a non-official resolution, brought by RJD member Bhim Singh in the Legislative Council, Mr Kumar said the Centre was empowered to amend the Constitution for making provision of reservation to EBCs in Lok Sabha and Assemblies.
'' Our party is ready to support any proposal of the Centre in Parliament to amend constitution aimed at providing reservation to EBCs in Lok Sabha and state Assemblies, '' Mr Kumar assured and said the initiative in this connection should be taken by the Union Government.
Referring to the resolution of Mr Singh which urged the State Government to recommend for reservation of extremely backward classes in Lok Sabha and state Assembly, Mr Kumar said the state had no role to play in this connection.
'' If the concerned proposal for amendment is passed by Parliament, states would come in the picture as it requires to be ratified by the state Assemblies, '' the Chief Minister pointed out and said, '' If such situation comes in future, the state government will not hesitate to do the needful.
