Govt initiates steps to prevent illegal sand quarrying

Puducherry, July 25(UNI) Puducherry administration had taken several measures to preevent illegal sand quarrying in this region of the Union Territory.

An official release said here today, District Collector Thevaneethidas convened a meeting of revenue and senior police officials here yesterday to intensify the patrolling duty by the team constituted for the same.

It was decided to impose a fine of Rs 25,000 on a lorry seized with sand and without valid documents and another Rs 3000, as the price of the sand and also not to release the lorries for five days evenafter the fine was remitted.

Decision to impose a fine of Rs 2000 to the lorry owners, who failed to cover the sand with tarpalin and to initiate action against anyone, who prevent the employees concerned from doing their duty or threating them were taken at the meeting.
